Middle School is a unique and vital time in a pre-adolescent mind. We
believe the pressure to conform to what every one else is doing is much
more prevalent in middle school, than any other time in one's life. The
steady erosion of morality in today's culture is evident through the
media. Songs, video games, and the internet have been the staple
nourishment for youth nationwide. Rather than being transformed by the
renewing of the heart, more and more I find our young brothers and sisters
selling themselves short by conforming to the patterns of this
world. In a click of a mouse, the turn of an iPod wheel, or the flicker of
a remote, our young adolescent tunes out to reality, and breathes the toxic
fumes of mainstream culture. The problem isn't the fact that they aren't
being well nourished, the problem lies within the nutritional
value/content the substance has on the adolescent when put in light of the
eternal.
The trend in America is that parents would heavily rely on the church for
the moral upbringing of their child. At most the church gets 5 hours a
week of your child's time. That is 3% of the week that is dedicated to
teaching kids how to live the rest of the 97%! Here at The Connection, the
church wants to partner with parents in the spiritual upbringing of our
youth, through weekly emails of what they will be learning. Our staff
encourages parental interaction, comments and feedback. Our desire is to
see this specific age group come to an early understanding of who Christ
is through solid Biblical teaching mixed with fun, and fellowship. It is
one of our main visions to lay a solid foundation for their specific age
group, so that they may abide in Him the rest of their lives. It is our
prayer, that in the midst of our culture of counterfeit sustenance, these
young men and women of Christ hold fast to the only true bread of life.
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing, and perfect will."
~Romans 12:2
